چکیده
ObjectiveTo determine the safety, feasibility, and physiologic impact of a preoperative respiratory strength training (RST) program in individuals undergoing elective cardiac surgery (CS).MethodsTwenty-five adults an CS at academic hospital setting enrolled completed RST 5 days/week (50 repetitions, 50% load, ≥3 weeks) home via telehealth this open-label prospective cohort study. adherence, attendance, adverse events were tracked. Pre- post-RST outcomes maximum expiratory pressure (MEP), inspiratory (MIP), voluntary cough spirometry, patient-reported dyspnea collected. Descriptive analyses Wilcoxon signed rank-tests performed.ResultsTwo participants (9%) did not complete prescribed program. No significant RST-related occurred. Treatment adherence for all was 90%, attendance 99%. Of patients who (n = 23; 91%), treatment excellent (98% 100%, respectively). Significant increases primary observed: MEP mean change, +15.4 (95% confidence interval [CI], +3.4 to +27.3, P < .007); MIP +14.9 CI, +9.4 +20.4, .0001). statistically differences or perceived observed (P > .05).ConclusionsThese preliminary data demonstrate that is safe feasible can improve short-term capacity (MEP MIP) patients. Future research warranted validate current findings larger whether improves postoperative extubation outcomes, airway clearance capacity, aspiration following surgery.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether early activity is feasible and safe in respiratory failure patients. DESIGN Prospective cohort study. SETTING From June 1, 2003, through December 31, 2003, we assessed safety and feasibility of early activity in all consecutive respiratory failure patients who required mechanical ventilation for >4 days admitted to our respiratory intensive care unit (RICU). متن کاملAerobic training is safe and improves exercise capacity in patients with mitochondrial myopathy.
Exercise intolerance is a prominent symptom in patients with mitochondrial myopathy (MM), but it is still unsettled whether exercise training is safe and beneficial for patients with MM. To address this, we studied the effect of 12 weeks cycle training on exercise capacity, quality of life and underlying molecular and cellular events in five patients with single large-scale deletions, one with ...

Results of preoperative pulmonary function tests were evaluated in 106 patients who had major thoracic or upper abdominal cardiovascular surgery. These results were related to the occurrence of postoperative complications by comparison of pulmonary function data in patients with an ICU stay of less than 5 days versus patients with an ICU stay of greater than 5 days. However, quantitative analys...
